ENCOURAGEMENT FOR DAD

Danielle gave me a good idea this week she thought it would be nice to ask all my blog readers to send a few words of encouragement to my Dad, Tommy Cox. You can either e-mail me them or leave them in the comment box or if you like e-mail me and I can give you his address and you can send them to him at home. I think this would really brighten his day to see how many people who don't even know him have been praying for him to get better. My Dad seems to be getting worse at this time the radiation is causing some serious side effects. I have a neighbor who is head of Hospice here in SC and she gave me some great advice tonight on how to talk to him and handle things with family, because at a time like this we sometimes get so emotional that we say things the wrong way to our family members. Please continue to pray for him and my step mom Alice she is wonderful to him and takes great care of him and I know she is hurting seeing him this way. This is one of my favorite pictures of my Dad, Alice and Brady (3) at his Firetruck Birthday Party!

GOOD FINDS

We were on our way home last night from dinner and decided to stop at Target to get a few things for Brady's sleep over tonight at the Aquarium with the Cub Scouts and I was looking for a good movie for my Dad and I to watch tonight and came across some great buys. Target has a ton of great movies for $5 and $7 so I just picked up a few classics like Pretty in Pink, Dirty Dancing, Karate Kid, Breakfast at Tiffany's and of course the great Love Actually. I did get a few others that were at the normal prices We are Marshall, Into the Wild and Dan in Real Life (thought this may be funny for my Dad to watch). Just thought I would share my great deals

UPDATE ON DAD

I spent the day with my Dad today, he is on his 5th day of radiation. He has lost 11 pounds in 5 days, so needless to say I am worried about him and it seems the Dr's are to. He is very week and I am not sure if the pain meds or the radiation to his brain is making him forgetful and kind of talking out of his head a little but he comes up with some funny things. He just got his 1976 CJ7 Jeep restored and I was outside looking at it today and he came to the door and wanted to go for a ride, after scaring him to death grinding gears and not being able to stop very good ( no power anything on this jeep!!!) he decided he wanted to drive but I would not let him on the roads we were on because he is so week in his legs and this jeep is hard to drive. But we had a good laugh that's for sure! I think my driving was about to take him out of this world not the cancer!! Please continue to pray for him to have strength and painless days ahead. Its a long fight but he is quite the trooper. This is one of my favorite pictures of me and my Dad I was about 2 in this picture.

A LITTLE COMFORT

"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.”
Psalm 18: 2-3

3 WORD SUNDAY

WE LOVE THE DOCTOR

We love the Dr!! Dr Seuss that is. Last night I took Brady and two of his friends to see Horton Hears A Who, the boys enjoyed it or should I say two of them did one of Brady's friends fell asleep before the movie even started. We had dinner at their house before we went and it was just a nice slow pace evening which I needed to get my mind off things.

OUR NEW ADDITION

This is our newest addition to our family (this is not our actual Glider ours is asleep in a blanket). His name is "Peak" he is a Sugar Glider and he is 8 weeks old. Sugar Gliders are small marsupials which are native to the rainforest's of Australia and Indonesia. In the wild they live primarily in trees in colonies of 10 - 15 Sugar Gliders. He really is a neat pet for us. Brady has had hamsters and they seem to only last about a year or so and it is so upsetting when they pass away because we are so attached to them. This little guy has a life expectancy of 12 - 15 years, that means Brady can take him to college when he goes!!! He has a dry food that he eats but you also feed him fruit and bread every day. We have his cage set up but can not hold him for 2 days, he needs to get use to his surroundings and our smell of our home of course they did not tell the 9 year old this until we had purchased him. I will post pictures of our little guy when we can start holding him.

PRAYER CHAIN

We are back and the news was not the best news for my Dad. It seems the cancer has spreed to his brain and his spine really badly. He is on some new pain medicine that will help keep him comfortable for now. He will need to have radiation on his brain and switch from chemo every three weeks to every week. My Dad is tired and can't really travel with all his pain, and this trip was very hard on him since he has become so weak. So he has decided to do the treatments at home in NC for now and have the Dr's in Philadelphia check him once a month. Mikee and I support my Dads decisions whatever he wants is fine with us. I appreciate all the kind words and prayers that all my friends and blog friends are sending our way. Please add my Dad, Tommy Cox to your prayer chains I believe in prayer and all that God can do in our lives. I will keep you posted on his appointments next week. Have a blessed weekend.

UPDATE

Well it has been a very long day at the hospital. I know how I feel and all I have done is sit and wait so I can't imagine how worn out my weak sweet Dad is. We saw the Dr and he ordered some test one is a bone scan to see if the cancer has spread into the bones because my
Dad is having such a hard time with his legs. The Dr here was not as upset about the chest xrays as the Dr's in NC. There is more cancer in the lungs but the focus is on the legs right now and making sure it isn't in the brain. We meet with the Dr again in the morning at 9 to hear the news and decide what treatment to do. Please pray for the Dr's to have the knowledge of what to do for my Dad his hope is low right now and he is in pain. I appreciate all the e-mails and comments all of you have left and the prayers are awesome! I am thankful for all of you guys. I will post more on Friday.

PLEASE PRAY

Well I will be leaving tomorrow to fly to Philadelphia to meet my Dad and Alice (step mom) to see the Doctor on Thursday. My Dad has taken a turn for the worse, he is having trouble breathing now and the cancer has spread it seems in his lungs more and his esophagus. He has talked to me last week about his funeral plans and other things which I hate to hear but I listen and take note. I know that my Dad is tired and when he is ready to stop all the things the Doctors suggest I will back him up, it will be very hard but I will do it. I just see how much pain he is in at this time and it breaks my heart. I can hear him hurt in his voice. Please pray that I will have the strength to hear what the Doctors say on Thursday and be strong for my Dad and not breakdown, Mikee is in Malibu at a meeting and can't be with me.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S

We had our annual Junior Service League Banquet last Thursday night. I was on the Special Events committee and this was our last thing to do for the 2007 - 2008 year. Our theme was Breakfast at Tiffany's. I think our team did a great job and we did it all without spending allot of money. We had 115 ladies enjoy a night of fellowship and dinner, I am on the same committee next year and I already can't wait to start planning the banquet with the girls. I will leave you with a quote from Audrey Hepburn that was read at our banquet by the outgoing President, Nikki who did a great job on her speach by the way.

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

BEST DESIGN IN PINEWOOD DERBY

Brady working on his car. He designed it to look like his rip stick.

Brady's car was on the center track. They run your car on all three tracks and total your time for the results.

I took a few pictures of Brady cooking the other night for a couple of his friends. He had checked out the cook book at school and wanted to try out some of the goodies. He did a great job and his friends enjoyed it.
